Do you want to discover Switzerland in a special way?
An IFYE lives in several host families and becomes acquainted with different regions of Switzerland . Most of the participating host families are from farms and agricultural backgrounds. As an IFYE you will participate in everyday life on these farms helping out with typical chores and working along side the families on the farm.
The exchange can last from 6 weeks to 6 months. Each IFYE will stay with a different host family for approximately 3 weeks at a time before moving on to the next family.
The exchange usually begins in June, for individual countries it is possible to begin in September (this is subject to change)
In Switzerland there are four official national languages (German, French, Italian, Rätoromanisch), most inhabitants (approx. 60%) speak German. Most people speak and understand English as well.
Once you arrive in Switzerland you will meet an IFYE coordinator who will send you to your first family. During the stay this coordinator remains your contact person. Your host family will determine many of the activities, trips and visits that you go on. Your daily routine is also determined by your host family as you learn how the typical Swiss family lives. While you are living in Switzerland you will have the oppertunity to meet IFYE's from other countries who are also partaking in the exchange.
Your Swiss host family takes you in free of charge. For your assistance you are given free room and board. The financial obligation for your exchange depends on the organization in your country.
